My Story
My journey began in Brazil, where my love for animals led me to veterinary medicine. During my Ph.D. in drug discovery for leishmaniasis, I worked extensively with mice and hamsters—the gold-standard preclinical models. Although my research showed that the tested drug (tamoxifen) was safe and effective in these animals, human clinical trials didn't mirror those results. This disparity reflects a sobering reality: 90% of drugs successful in animal trials fail in humans. Rather than letting this deter me, I transformed that frustration into a mission to bridge the translational gap. Today, I specialize in human-relevant tissue models and New Approach Methodologies (NAMs), combining my clinical background with advanced engineering to ensure scientific discovery is more predictive, ethical, and humane.
Life Milestones

Veterinary Medicine Degree
UNESP Araçatuba—The top-ranked veterinary school in Brazil. This first-generation education milestone laid the foundation for my clinical and scientific journey.
M.S. & Ph.D. in Sciences

Conducted advanced research at USP, specializing in drug discovery, cell biology, biochemistry, and host-pathogen interactions within complex biological systems.
Cornell Collaboration

Postdoctoral work in Biomedical Engineering, collaborating with Dr. Michael Shuler. A pivotal shift toward human-relevant platforms and bioengineering.
Move into Bioengineering & NAMs

Dedicated focus on New Approach Methodologies (NAMs), mainly focused on Microfabricated Tissue Models, bridging the gap between clinical veterinary knowledge and advanced engineering discovery. Also , managing lab operations and mentoring the next generation of scientists.
International Scientist & Project Manager

Consolidating a scientific career as Senior Scientist and Project Manager at Systemic Bio, where I led the development of advanced 3D-bioprinted microphysiological systems, including a specialized liver-on-a-chip platform for DILI modeling. This work focused on pioneering human tissue models that advance New Alternative Methods (NAMs) in translational research.
Consultant & NAMs Strategist

Currently leveraging clinical, pre-clinical models and bioengineering expertise to provide strategic guidance on NAMs adoption, accelerating human-relevant drug discovery.

Humane Society Fostering Journey

In dedication to my advocacy for animal welfare, I have had the privilege to foster rescued animals through the Houston and Chicago Humane Societies. These companions resided in my home for months, receiving the hands-on care and medical attention needed to recover and socialize before finding their forever families.
